Victoria Car Share Cooperative (now Modo)

The Victoria Car Share Cooperative was founded in 1997 as one of the first car sharing organizations in North America. As a shareholder owned enterprise, accountable to an elected board of directors, it has been a foundation of the Victoria, British Columbia region’s sustainable transportation system for over a decade. The Victoria Car Share Co-operative was absorbed into Vancouver’s Modo Car Co-op following an Annual General Meeting membership vote in 2014.

I was a manager of the organization between 2009 and 2011 and spearheaded a number of business development reforms that resulted in substantial fleet, member, and revenue growth. While the organization has always been exceptionally well-administered, its potential was bound by a number of constraints. First and foremost, I helped to institute a “mobility services” first attitude that adapted the cooperative’s policies,
